Innsbruck

Excursion to Innsbruck and Swarovski Museum

Description:

Innsbruck is the capital of Tyrol and one of the most beautiful cities in Europe.

Newly built buildings in the central part of the city are in harmony with Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque structures. Modern Innsbruck extends along the Inn River to the east and west away from historic areas.

The city has long been an important commercial and transportation center, and lies at the intersection of two important routes through the central Alps. The name of the city means “bridge over the Inn”. In 1180, a small settlement on the river moved from the northern bank to the place where the Old Town is now located. In 1239, the city received its own rights and privileges, and in 1429 Innsbruck became the official capital of Tyrol. The city was famous throughout Europe during the reign of Maximilian I, when it reached heights in its cultural and political importance. Innsbruck experienced another imperial flourishing during the 40-year reign of Maria Theresa.

In 1964 and 1976, all the attention of the world was turned to Innsbruck when the Winter Olympics were held here. The city is still a center of winter sports with modern infrastructure.

During the tour we will see the Golden Roof - the main attraction of the city and its most characteristic symbol. This is a magnificent bay window (three floors) building in the Old Town. Among other attractions are the Hofburg Imperial Palace, the Hofkirche Church, the main treasure of which is the tomb of Maximilian I, the Cathedral of St. George. Jacob, Arc de Triomphe.

Not far from Innsbruck, in the town of Wattens in the cave is a fabulous museum Crystal Worlds Swarovski. This is an underground fantasy with seven rooms connected. Entering through a giant head with sparkling eyes, you will immediately see a huge 12-ton wall lined with artificial crystals. In other rooms, you can wander into the Planet of Crystals with a 3-D light show. In the Crystal Dome you will understand what it means to be inside a giant crystal. In the Crystal Theatre unfolds a fairy-tale world of color, mystery and graceful movement. Among the exposition of the museum you can see the largest and smallest crystals of the world and works of art, designed by many celebrities from Salvador Dali to Andy Warhol.
