Hofkirche Church

Burggraben 10, 6020 Innsbruck, Austria 13 m W

Description:

Hofkirche Church is one of the main attractions of the Austrian city of Innsbruck. Built in the middle of the XVI century by order of Emperor Ferdinand I, the Hofkirche Church was primarily intended to meet the spiritual needs of the patronal aristocracy. Today, everything has changed, and anyone can get inside.

The main attraction of the Hofkirche Church is a marble sarcophagus intended for the storage of the ashes of Emperor Ferdinand I. The sarcophagus is decorated with life-size bronze statues depicting the ancestors of Ferdinand. Above the marble are carved reliefs, which display episodes from the life path of the emperor. But despite all the grandeur and pathos, the body of the emperor was buried in a completely different place.
