Leopold Fountain

Institut fur Musikwissenschaften, Innsbruck, Austria

Description:

The Leopold Fountain is located between the Silver Altar, Palace and Theatre in Innsbruck. It is an equestrian statue depicting Prince Tyrol, Archduke Leopold V, who ruled from 1619 to 1632. The monument was erected during his lifetime, which testifies to the great deeds of the prince.

The composition is located in the center of a large fountain, the prince is depicted on a horse that stands on his hind legs. The fountain is also decorated with sea gods. Previously, due to chastity, these figures were decided to be removed, since there was excessive nudity. However, once the times of shyness had passed, the sea gods took their place again. Not the originals, just copies.

If you want your cherished dream to come true, you should rub the leg of Poseidon, located in the center of the fountain. But be careful not to slip!
