St. Andre's Church

Pfarrgasse 4, 9900 Lienz, Austria

Description:

The Church of St. Andre is the oldest architectural monument of Linz. The history of this temple goes back to the V century, when an early Christian basilica was built on this site. In addition to expressive architecture, the Church of St. Andre is a memorial building - here is the tombstone of Count Leonard Herzer, who was the last representative of this ancient family.

The church is a three-nave temple built in 1457 on the north bank of the Izel River. The church is made in the Gothic style, unlike the previous building. In the XVIII century, large-scale works were carried out on the reconstruction of the building - a platform for the choir was seriously altered. Among the main attractions of the Church of St. Andre, in addition to the tombstones, it is worth noting decorative sculptures of lions in the Romanesque style, which are located on the porch, as well as a late Gothic wooden crucifix.
