Brook Castle and East Tyrol Museum

Schloßberg 7, 9900 Patriasdorf, Austria

Description:

Brook Castle is built on a hill that adjoins Mount Hochstein, on which Linz himself is located. Since 1943, the Museum of Traditions and Creativity of East Tyrol has been working here.

The castle was named after the stone bridge (Bruecke), which connected it to the outside world in the Middle Ages, as well as a powerful weapon. The courtyard of the castle, built from 1250 to 1277, is of regular rectangular shape. Unfortunately, only a few parts have survived from the old castle – a tin wreath, a two-storey Romanesque chapel and the main tower, as well as a wall from which you can admire Linz.

Since 1943, the Museum of Traditions and Creativity of East Tyrol has been operating here, in 40 rooms of which you can see a luxurious collection of paintings, 100 of which belong to the brush of Albine Egger-Lienz, a local painter who lived here from 1868-1925. And in the archaeological department there are interesting exhibits found during excavations and telling about local history, starting from primitive time.

Interestingly, the museum regularly hosts thematic exhibitions on the theme of culture, nature and history of the region. Here on the open flight terrace you can have a delicious snack.
