Museum of Modern History - Ebenze Concentration Camp Memorial
Kirchengasse 5, Ebensee, Austria
About the company:
The Ebenze History Museum is a historical local history museum in the centre of Ebenze in Austria in the federal state of Upper Austria. The theme of the exhibition is the political history of time in Salzkammergut 1918-1955.
In Ebenz, during the time of National Socialism, the museum building was used as auxiliary premises of the Mauthausen concentration camp between November 1943 and May 1945. In the postwar years, all the premises of the camp in the building were gradually removed. In 1988, the Resistance Museum Club was founded in Ebenze. His goal was to perpetuate a place in the history museum.
In 1993, a new concept was developed for the museum, which was expanded. Since 2001, the museum has been called the Museum of Modern History and the Ebenze Concentration Camp Memorial. In March 2001, the Ebenze Museum of Modern History was opened in the former school building, which was built in 1799.
