Seebenstein Castle

Neuer Schlossweg, Seebenstein, Neunkirchen, Austria

Description:

Seebenstein Castle is located 70 kilometers from Vienna. This is a medieval building that dates back to the 12th century. Subsequently, the castle was subjected to destruction and restructuring, which affected its appearance. The expansion of the castle occurred presumably in the early 17th century. On the massive walls of the castle there are traces of architectural innovations.

The castle consists of two parts. The old part, which was built earlier, includes a round tower and a partially destroyed dwelling of the castle. At the top is a large collection of weapons, sculptures and a chapel.

The founder of the castle is considered Gottfried von Wels-Lambach, who began construction in 1045. In the following centuries, the castle changed its owners several times. In the 15th century, the upper part was added, which in 1683 was unsuccessfully besieged by the Turks.

Today, tourists can explore the interior of the castle and the art collection located there.
