Hoensalzburg - History in Stone

Description:

“Like a diamond in a golden ring, brightly sparkles in the morning rays of the sun the enchanting fortress, proudly looking from a green hill to the Salzburg lands.”

The fortress of Hoensalzburg is an invincible stronghold of the spiritual principality! The only fully preserved fortress in Europe, which for almost 1000 years withstood all the sieges (except the Napoleonic troops), is waiting for you!

We will climb the funicular and see the tower of torture – a symbol of submission, splendor and luxury of interiors of the XV-XVI centuries with gold decoration and exquisite wooden carvings. You will see unique artifacts, including Venetian and Hungarian gold coins, objects telling about the life of the inhabitants of Hoenzalzburg. The Arsenal keeps knightly armor and weapons, recalling the glorious and harsh history of the fortress.

If desired, you can visit the wine cellar, bakery or even prison.

From the height of the bastions of the XVII century, a breathtaking panorama of Salzburg and the Salzach river writhing with a snake will open. Immerse yourself in the atmosphere of medieval power and greatness!
