Fairytale Castle in Carinthia - Hohosterwitz

Description:

Hohosterwitz is rightfully one of the most fabulous castles in Austria, it is both a symbol and a pearl of the country. Walt Disney was so amazed by the view of the majestic Hohosterwitz and the unique panorama opening from the fortress that he used her type in the fairy tale Cinderella.

The first mention of Hohosterwitz refers to the IX century. The fortress was impregnable for centuries; even in the Middle Ages, when firearms appeared, no one managed to seize it.

Since 1541, this fortress is owned by the Kewenhüller family, having first received it in the “mortgage” right from Emperor Frederick III. And since 1571, Georg Kewenhüller acquires it in private ownership, thoroughly rebuilds and it is in this form that the Hohosterwitz fortress has reached our days.

We will pass through all 14 defensive impregnable gates and find ourselves in the Renaissance courtyard of the fortress. Meet the local Giant and the knight garrison.

The next stop of our tour will be a tour of the Duke's Throne on the Gosposvetsky field - the place where the ceremony of initiation into the Carinthian princes took place. You will learn why the image of the Prince's Stone, which started this procession, suddenly appeared on the two-cent coin of Slovenia.

And then we will visit the oldest church in Carinthia 750 in Maria Saal and you will find out how the portrait of V. I. Lenin appeared there.

And our tour will end on the amazing Mount Magdalensberg, from where a breathtaking panorama opens. Here we will taste the most delicious traditional Carinthian dumplings "Nudle Kudl Moodle" and juice made from elderberry syrup.
