Cathedral

Kapitelplatz 2, Postfach 62, 5010 Salzburg, Austria

Description:

One of the most beautiful sights of Salzburg is located at the intersection of Residenzplatz and Domplatz squares. Here is the Cathedral, included in the list of the most beautiful temples in the world. Its silhouette with a majestic dome is recognizable all over the world, and to see it firsthand is an incredible impression.

Many architects and art historians call the Cathedral of Salzburg the most perfect example of the construction of the Renaissance. The height of the cathedral is about 80 meters. The facade, made of marble, is decorated with two symmetrically arranged towers. The entrance to the main arch is blocked by a gate with artfully executed images of Faith, Hope and Love. At the main entrance there are four statues: the patrons of the city of the Apostles Peter and Paul, bishops Virgil and Rupert, listed as saints.

The interior of the cathedral is made in the Baroque style and richly decorated with frescoes and painting. The main bronze font of the cathedral is also noteworthy. In 1756 it was here that Wolfgang Mozart was baptized.

The main organ of 4,000 pipes is decorated with angels floating around. According to the general view, the body is not so large, rather modest. Regular concerts here leave no less impression. Especially incredible is Mozart’s Requiem, written by the author before his own death.

The cathedral also houses a museum, which contains a large collection of works of art on religious themes.
