Description:

The University in Salzburg was founded in 1622 by Prince Archbishop Paris Lodron, then, in 1810, it was closed, but in 1963 it was reopened, giving it the name of the founder. Today it is one of the city’s four universities and has a prestigious reputation among all European universities.

Initially, the university was transformed from a Benedictine gymnasium, and at its head was the Benedictine rector Albert III Kaislin. Among all the university curricula, theology was given special importance. The liquidation of the university is connected with the annexation of Salzburg to Bavaria. Then he was disbanded into the Theological Lyceum and Medical School. With the re-establishment of the university in 1963, the Lyceum became the Faculty of Theology, thus becoming the only faculty that has existed since the foundation of the university. Here, as before, theological education is considered prestigious. Along with the Faculty of Theology, the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Culture and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Natural Sciences conduct their activities.
