Museum of Modern Art
Monchsberg 32 5020 Salzburg, osterreich
About the company:
The Museum of Modern Art (Museum der Moderne Monchsberg) in Salzburg is a curious tourist site, and both its exposition and architectural appearance are interesting.
The museum consists of two original buildings located in two notable places in the city. The main building, Rupertinum, is located in the heart of the Old Town, near the Palace of Festivals, and is a Baroque building with a brilliant facade decorated with tiles of the hand of F. Hunderwasser.
In this wonderful museum, tourists can get acquainted with works of art of the 20th century. The museum was opened on the idea of Friedrich Welz, a local resident who gave the city the vast majority of his picturesque collection. The museum opened in 1983 and was the only modernist art museum in Salzburg. However, in 2004, his “brother” opened on the slope of the high mountain Mönchsber, which became part of the Rupertinum Museum. Interestingly, with the help of a special computer program, a secret “message” to the city was applied to its facade – the notes of the opera “Don Juan”.
In the museum you can see the works of Ernst Haas, Rebecca Horne, Erwin Wurm and others. In the photo gallery of the museum - more than 17 thousand works.
