Local history museum
Markt 1, 5440 Golling an der Salzach, Austria
About the company:
One of the main attractions of the town of Golling is the wonderful Local History Museum, located in an ancient fortress. It was founded in 1969 as a scientific community, and the first visitors received two years later - the exposition opened in 1971.
The main task of the museum is to familiarize residents and guests of the city with its rich history and natural attractions. Numerous exhibits help visitors to travel several centuries and even millennia back. The oldest artifacts are almost 250 million years old – this is the skeleton of the fossil precursor of ichthyosaurs – fossils discovered by paleontologists, as well as the remains of various animals of the Ice Age.
The surroundings of Golling are rich in archaeological monuments, so archaeological finds form the basis of the collection. In the exposition you can see numerous historical documents, copies of ancient cave paintings, evidence of early human presence in these parts. Several showcases are dedicated to the coins of Salzburg, which were minted for seven centuries, and other interesting artifacts are presented to the attention of guests.
