Day of Prosecutor’s Office of Azerbaijan

Description:

Official emblem of the Prosecutor’s Office of Azerbaijan
On October 1, employees of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan solemnly celebrate their professional holiday.

The celebration of this day is due to historical necessity. On July 17, 1998, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Heydar Aliyev, signed an order on holding a professional holiday for employees of the Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Azerbaijan on October 1 each year, based on the fact that the prosecutor’s office began its activities as part of the Baku District Court by the decision of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated October 1, 1918.

Unlike the judiciary, the existence of which in many states has been known since ancient times, the prosecutor’s office as an independent institution arose much later.

The history of the prosecutor’s office in the independent Azerbaijan state begins with the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic. On November 18, 1918, the Council of Ministers approved the “Regulations on the Judicial Chamber of Azerbaijan”.

After the restoration of the state independence of Azerbaijan in 1991, our Republic entered a new period. However, during the early years of independence under the PFPA, the internal strife, anarchy, and chaos that swept the country caused enormous damage to nation-building.

After Heydar Aliyev returned to power, a new period began in the activities of the prosecutor’s office. During this period, it was the prosecutors who professionally investigated such serious criminal events as crimes against independent statehood, terrorist attacks committed against prominent public and state figures, embezzlement of state property, serious criminal acts committed in the banking and financial system, including the mass appropriation of savings of ordinary citizens and the perpetrators were punished.

Attempts at state and military coups in October 1994 and March 1995 were prevented. In the investigation of criminal cases on these events, a group of prosecutors was particularly distinguished.
