International Day of Older Persons
Description:
Experts dealing with demographic problems note that today the age level of the population of Azerbaijan has decreased, i.e. people do not live as before in 90-100 years, but die already in 75-85 years.
Azerbaijan has long been famous for its centenarians. According to international gerontology, a person who has reached the age of 90 is considered a long-lived person.
According to Azerbaijani demographer Akif Musayev, over the past 15 years, factors such as socio-economic and environmental, the Karabakh war, as well as various diseases have had a negative impact on the decline in the age standard of living of the population of the republic.
According to the State Statistics Committee, 2,639 centenarians were recorded during the last census in 1989. Among the centenarians of Azerbaijan, women have always outnumbered men several times. For example, in 1989, there were 10 times more women than men among centenarians aged 100 or more.
However, many centenarians registered at the last census are no longer alive. According to the State Statistics Committee, their number in 2001 decreased to 2307. Currently, the number of centenarians in Azerbaijan is less than 2 thousand.
According to environmentalists, air, water and soil pollution in recent years also negatively affects human health. According to the State Statistics Committee, a person born today can live up to 72.4 years. To date, the person who lived the longest life was a citizen of Azerbaijan Shirali Muslimov. He lived 168 years.
