International Day of the Family

Description:

The family is the cell of our society
In 1993, the General Assembly decided that since 1994, 15 May will be observed annually as International Day of Families.

In 1989, the Assembly proclaimed 1994 the International Year of the Family in order to increase understanding of family issues and strengthen the institutional capacity of countries to address serious family-related problems through integrated policies.
The establishment of this day is designed to draw the attention of the public of different countries to the numerous problems of the family.

Especially for families affected by war, poverty and AIDS. Forced to fight for basic living conditions, these families need and must receive support. According to UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, when the fundamental rights of one family are violated, the unity of the entire human family of which they are members is threatened.

In connection with the International Day of Families, the State Committee for Family, Women and Children of the Republic of Azerbaijan has prepared an action plan in connection with the “Family Month”.

This month provides for the preparation of a special issue, trainings for young families in the capital and regions, free medical examination of poor and low-income families and other events.
