International Doctor's Day
Description:
In 1971, the international medical humanitarian organization Médecins Sans Frontieres, MSF, was founded, with the International Red Cross, the Order of Malta and UNICEF among its founders.
It is an independent organization financed mainly by public donations from the countries where its offices are located. Under the auspices of the United Nations, MSF provides assistance to victims of natural disasters, armed conflicts, epidemics, social marginalization in more than 80 countries, helping everyone regardless of political, religious or ethnic affiliation. Every year, about 700 MSF health workers work in hotspots around the world.
In Azerbaijan, Doctor’s Day is celebrated on October 1 in 2007. The Republic is taking all necessary measures to create a modern medical infrastructure and train qualified doctors.
Over the past four years, budget spending on healthcare in Azerbaijan has increased 5.4 times, President Ilham Aliyev said at the groundbreaking ceremony of the educational and therapeutic clinic of Azerbaijan Medical University on September 18, 2007.
“I am sure that very soon the medical infrastructure in Azerbaijan will reach the highest world level,” Aliyev said.
A total of 25 new medical facilities will be built this year, and about 50 more have already been built or renovated.
