World Refugee Day

Description:

Refugees...
Every year, on June 20, refugees and internally displaced persons celebrate their sad day. It was approved by the UN General Assembly in 2000.

World Refugee Day is a statement of the fact that wars on the ground do not stop, and a statement of the international agreements on which the protection of refugees and respect for the resilience and courage of refugees around the world are based.

80% of all refugees in the world are women and children. On this day, we pay tribute to the willpower of millions of mothers and wives who strive to preserve their families in the most dire circumstances.

Refugees, according to international law, are people who are unable or unwilling to return to their countries, to their native lands due to well-founded fears of becoming a victim of persecution.

Refugees are still one of the most pressing problems of the modern world. Currently, there are about 20 million refugees and 25 million internally displaced persons registered on the planet.

Azerbaijan has more than 1 million refugees and internally displaced persons. According to this indicator, Azerbaijan ranks second in the world.

Everyone knows that the refugee situation in Azerbaijan is complicated. This is recognized by the head of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Azerbaijan, William Tol, UNICEF Regional Director for CIS, Central and Eastern Europe Maria Kalivis, and many other foreign representatives. But for them, those who live in camps, tent camps, shabby dormitories, this is not easier. Neither the adoption of various state programs, nor international assistance, which has recently decreased markedly, will change the situation with Azerbaijani refugees for the better.
