World Day for Safety and Health at Work

Every April, in Baku and other regions of Azerbaijan, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, employers’ and workers’ associations organize an awareness-raising campaign on the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases.
On 23-25 April 2006, Werner Konrad Blenck, Director of the Subregional Bureau of the International Labour Organization (ILO) for Eastern Europe and Central Asia, visited Azerbaijan.
The purpose of the visit was to discuss further prospects for cooperation with the national partners of the ILO in Azerbaijan - the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population, the Confederation of Trade Unions, the National Confederation of Employers, etc. The parties discussed the possibility of signing the National Decent Work Program. Among other priorities, the Programme will address youth employment.
The mission, which also included the global specialist of the Employment Bureau Martin Lubiov, is planning to meet with Azerbaijani Prime Minister Artur Rasizade, Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Population Fizuli Alekperov, UN Resident Coordinator Marco Borsotti, Chairman of the Trade Union Confederation Sattar Mehbaliyev, Chairman of the NCOP Alekper Mammadov, etc.
