World Press Freedom Day

Description:

Press
The decision to celebrate World Press Freedom Day on 3 May was made by the UN General Assembly in December 1993.

On May 3, 1991, African journalists gathered in the Namibian capital of Windhoek for a regional seminar on promoting independent and pluralistic media and signed the Windhoek Declaration, which called on governments around the world to ensure freedom of the press and its democratic character.

The Windhoek Declaration was the first document to commit to protecting the freedom of people around the world to express their opinions and have access to independent sources of information.

The significance of the Windhoek Declaration adopted at the seminar was so great that the UN General Assembly on December 21, 1993 decided to celebrate May 3 on an international scale as World Press Freedom Day.

Azerbaijan has a long history. If you look at this great history, you can see that the word, opinion and press in Azerbaijan have never been as free as they are now.

Journalism is a difficult profession. I must admit that this is not an easy profession. A person of another profession is busy in his workplace, a certain time passes, and he goes home. Whether he is engaged in science or works in production, or in trade, in business, there is no difference.

A journalist doesn't have a job. Even the editorial board is not a journalist’s workplace. Because if he is in the editorial office, looking at the ceiling, he will not be able to write anything, will not be able to work. It means that a journalist must constantly maintain contact with society, maintain contact with people, maintain contact with different layers of society, have connections everywhere to get the necessary information, and on the basis of this information write his articles, works in a particular field. It's not easy.
