Baku

Baku - Paris of the Caucasus

Description:

Auto-pedestrian tour of our capital covers the central part of Baku with the most interesting historical and architectural sights.

The ancient part of the city on this route we will see only in the form of the fortress wall that once surrounded and guarded our city from all sides, and the Maiden Tower, which is a symbol of ancient Baku. With the beginning of the period of the first oil boom, the city began to grow and develop rapidly and broke out of the old fortress walls. At this time, a lot of people came here from all over Russia, Europe and the rest of the world. The first local millionaires of the oil industry appeared, Nobels, Rothschilds and other representatives of foreign capital came.

New buildings and structures characteristic of European architecture began to appear around Eastern Baku. By the beginning of the 20th century, our city became a place where two cultures – eastern and western – harmoniously merged. Its magnificent streets, rich houses and shops resembled the most beautiful streets of European cities. Baku became known as the Paris of the Caucasus. Talented architects at the expense of local oil magnates formed a beautiful look of European Baku, creating such masterpieces as the Ismailie Palace, the De Boer mansion, the Bra house. Ramazanovs, City Duma building, Murtuza Mukhtarov Palace, State Philharmonic, etc.

During the years of Soviet power, the capital of Azerbaijan was also decorated with remarkable architectural structures. This is the majestic Government House, the building of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the complex of buildings of Akademgorodok, the magnificent Mountain Park.

The architecture of modern Baku will not leave anyone indifferent.

Our city, despite its antiquity, is not an old, but a young developing metropolis. Already the symbols of the new capital of independent Azerbaijan are the amazing Heydar Aliyev Center, created by the British architect Zaha Hadid, and three flames soaring up, three majestic glass skyscrapers - Barry Hughes Flame Towers. These towers are especially spectacular in the evening, their night lighting is recognized as the best in the world according to one of the sites about urbanism. In addition, they are built on the highest point of the city, so they are perfectly visible from everywhere.

A sightseeing tour of Baku is, in general, a car tour, but includes exits with walks in the Nagorno-Karabakh Park, along Primorsky Boulevard and around the Heydar Aliyev Center. So you can take pictures, enjoy the beautiful panorama of the Baku Bay and the amphitheater of our wonderful city descending to it. In good weather, you can sit on the boulevard, look at the sea and drink aromatic Azerbaijani tea with delicious jam.
