The Old Town - in all the details
Description:
The old city is a real labyrinth of ancient Baku. A labyrinth that harbors many stories, secrets and legends. Without a reliable guide in this maze, it is very easy to get lost and walk past many artifacts without even noticing them. Together with you we will pass through all historical and significant places of the Old Town and explore all its sights. *
I'm going to tell you the history of every architectural monument along the way, and there will be a lot of them. You will learn the secrets, happy and tragic stories surrounding the houses of Baku khans, merchants and oil tycoons.
Details of what you will see and visit during the tour:
"Maiden Tower" and the first acquaintance with the old city.
Our tour will begin near the most ancient symbol of Baku - the Maiden Tower. I will tell you what its purpose was in different periods of history and tell you all its legends and secrets (there are very, very many). At your request, we will go to the tower itself and admire the Old Town from its top - "Icheri Sheher" (translated as "Inner City"). Further, having examined the palace of the Hajiyevs (with a glorious and tragic fate), we will pass beyond the fortress walls and find ourselves in the fabulous atmosphere of the Ancient City. We will explore ancient excavations, crypts, caravanserais, baths and mosques. Everything that is located in the lower, seaside part of the ancient city-fortress. We will look into the most remote and secret corners, the presence of which many tourists do not even know (and about others know, but wandering for hours through the mazes "Icheri Sheher", in vain trying to find them.
Palace of the Shirvanshahs, “Diamond Hand” and narrow streets of the city.
We will pass to the upper part of the Icheri Sheher and inspect the palace of the Shirvanshahs, the Khan’s House and the fortifications of the city wall. We will find the location of the filming of the famous film “Diamond Hand” (required to be photographed, imitating the famous scene “Damn it!”, and if desired, “Ziegel-zigel ai lu-lu”), as well as visit the studio of the famous artist Ali Shamsi. Back we will pass through an authentic, narrow inner street, past the local sanctuary - the house in which Saint Mir Movsum Agha lived (who, according to legend, did not have bones). Many interesting stories and legends will be waiting for you all the way.
Walk along the city wall and the palaces of the oil magnates.
Then we will go outside the Old City and inspect the outer part of the city wall. If by this time you are hungry, then on the way out of the fortress we will make a stop and try delicious dishes of national cuisine with wonderful bread - Tendir, where they were treated to Vladimir Putin (and many other celebrities, whose photos you can see on the wall of the famous Tendirhana). Next, we will walk through the fantastically beautiful Governor’s Garden, see the secret passage of the ancient fortress and inspect the building of the Baku Philharmonic. I'm going to show you a place where two thousand years seem to meet each other. We will walk to one of the most beautiful buildings in Baku - the Palace of Happiness (which, ironically, has one of the most tragic stories in this city). Our way will lie past many historical buildings - the Rothschild residence, the Sadikhov house, Ismailia and many others. I'll tell you the story of each of them.
