You are waiting for rock images, which like ancient “stone books” give you news from the distant past, a walk between the giant blocks of Gobustan’s table mountains, mysterious stone bowls, safaris to the Martian landscapes of mud volcanoes and, if you wish, swimming in the crater of the largest of them (the same one in which the leading “Eagle and tails” Anastasia Ivleeva bathed – the title photo of the tour). And at the end of the tour there will be two interesting bonuses: a visit to an ancient mosque and a fish restaurant by the sea. All this is just a generalized list of everything you will see and visit on this tour.

Rock paintings and Gobustan Museum.

Our journey in the days before our era, will begin with a trip to places where once flowed rivers, grew rough vegetation, grazed herds of animals and lived primitive people. We're going to Gobustan. Our path will lie past oil rigs and platforms, which you will not be able to see in Baku. Having reached Gobustan, we will visit the Gobustan Museum and walk to the rocks, on which ancient petroglyphs are preserved - cave paintings of primitive people. I will tell you about the meaning and significance of many of them. In addition, a walk between the placers of giant stones will impress you no less than the contemplation of ancient petroglyphs. We also find, carved on stone, the inscription of the lost Roman Legion, the traces of which were once cut off in these rocky lands. In addition, we will walk through the most beautiful places, between the rocks of Gobustan. This landscape some travelers call fantastic and alien, and some feel like a “Jurassic Park”, where the rocks are about to show dinosaurs.

Mud volcanoes.

Then, we will be waiting for a small “off-road safari”. We will take a taxi and get to a unique natural phenomenon – mud volcanoes. This is a healing mixture of dirt and oil, which explodes in bubbles, bursts from the bowels of the earth. The earth, like a soft sponge, will drown under your feet. In 2017, CNN Travel published a rating of “50 natural wonders that you should see” and mud volcanoes of Gobustan took sixth place in this ranking. Mud volcanoes are a unique natural phenomenon, a healing mixture of dirt and oil, which escapes from the bowels of the earth and at the same time gurgles very funny. If you wish, we can bottle this mixture and you can take it with you (I will share with you the secrets of treating this mud). Simultaneously with the mud from the craters and gas, which can be set on fire. At the same time, the crater turns into a fascinating torch. A walk between these volcanoes will be remembered for a lifetime.

The “Martian landscapes” formed by mud volcanoes are a sight worth seeing. In 2011, the Gobustan volcanoes were among the 28 finalists for the title of one of the new “Seven Wonders of the World”, along with the Amazon, the Dead Sea, the Grand Canyon, the Great Coral Reef, Mount Kilimanjaro and the Maldives. The list also includes Table Mountain in Cape Town, which looks very similar to the 2 mountains of Gobustan. In addition, we will visit the “boiling” mud lake of Gobustan and see one of the last natural oil lakes of Absheron (or rather what remains of it).

There will be a small bonus on the way back. We will stop and visit the Bibi-Eybat Mosque. You will hear from me the tragic history of this mosque and admire its amazing beauty. Also from the site of the mosque, you will have a view of the oil-bearing artery of the city - Bibeeibat Bay, the grand history of which I will also tell you.

Fish restaurant by the sea. If you wish, this may be another “delicious” bonus for you. We can stop at one of the fish restaurants on the shore of the Caspian Sea. In one of those restaurants where Baku residents prefer to come. Here you can always enjoy the freshest fish at a reasonable price.
