Meeting East and West
Description:
"If you haven't seen Baku... (R. Christmas)
A friend told me:
"You must be crazy, old man!
I understand your sympathy.
I'm sorry, I can't.
You're so sorry.
What are you talking about? Why are you moaning?
What, like a damn doldon.
About Baku,
Baku,
Baku?
…..
I said to my friend,
“What, traveling around the planet,
You know the wind,
I saw it, I saw it.
But why did you hurt yourself?
You're still Baku.
I haven't!
If you haven't seen Baku,
What did you see then?
What?
So the wonderful Soviet poet Robert Rozhdestvensky spoke about Baku, admiring its beauty and originality. It is difficult to get acquainted with all the main sights of our capital in one day, but it is possible if you combine a tour of the old fortress of Icheri Sheher with a sightseeing tour of the modern part of the city, built from the 19th century to this day.
In today’s Baku, the ancient history embodied in the Eastern medieval architecture of the Old City and the ambitions of the modern metropolis are intertwined, the symbols of which can be considered the Cultural Center of G. Aliyev and the Flame Towers.
We will begin, of course, with a walk through the Old Town, which has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2000. I will show and tell you about the monuments of history and architecture of the ancient East - the Maiden Tower, the ensemble of the Shirvanshahs Palace, mosques, bathhouses, caravanserais. We will enjoy the color and aura of the eastern city and, going beyond its borders, we will find ourselves in Baku during the first oil boom, the streets of which in the 19-20 centuries were built up by European architects at the expense of Baku millionaires-oil manufacturers.
In the car part of the tour - Baku of the 21st century - you get acquainted with the modern look of the city, its fantastic projects, aimed at the future.
We will finish our acquaintance with our beautiful city on the observation deck in the Nagorny Park, which is the highest point of the capital and from where a magnificent panorama of the Baku Bay and the city descending to the waters of the Caspian Sea opens.
