Baku TV Tower
12 Akademika Abbaszadeh Street, Baku, Azerbaijan
Description:
The Baku TV Tower is a fairly new landmark in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. Its height is 310 meters above sea level. This number makes the tower the tallest building in the whole country. By world standards, the TV tower is not so tall - it ranks 36th.
The Ministry of Communications of the then Azerbaijan Republic in the USSR made an order for the project executed by the State Design Institute of the Ministry of Communications of the USSR. Construction officially began in 1979, but was not completed by 1985 due to a number of circumstances. It was only in 1993 that construction was resumed thanks to Heydar Aliyev’s return to power. In 1996, the Baku TV Tower was finally opened in the presence of its godfather.
Since 2008, the tower has undergone a global reconstruction, which allowed it to be completely re-equipped with the most modern radio equipment. Also, the Baku TV Tower acquired the attribute necessary for each such building: on the 62nd floor, at an altitude of 175 meters above the ground, a revolving observation restaurant was opened, from which you can see the whole of Baku in the palm of your hand.
