Juma mosque

ooh A. Zeynalli, 49, Old Town, Baku

Description:

The Juma Mosque is a Friday Mosque for the common prayer of the Muslim community at noon on Friday. The mosque was built in the old city - Icheri Sheher - on the money of Baku philanthropist Haji Shikhali Dadashev.

In ancient times, the site of the modern mosque was a temple of fire worshipers, which was then replaced by the ancient Juma mosque. In 1899, one of the local pious merchants decided to completely rebuild the building and allocated a significant sum for the construction of a new mosque. From the old Juma of the XV century, only a minaret remained, which today adjoins the building of the new mosque.

Juma Mosque is not only an architectural monument, but also one of the active mosques of the city. Once near the mosque on Friday, you can see a large number of Muslims who came here to pray.
