Mount Yanar Dag
Description:
The burning mountain Yanar Dag is located on the Absheron Peninsula 25 kilometers northeast of Baku near the village of Mehammedi. The mountain got its name because of the gases coming out of the ground, which in the form of fire rise above the ground at the foot of the mountain with a height of 116 meters. The constant wind gives the flames 3 to 5 meters high bizarre shapes and enhances the mystery of this unique natural phenomenon.
In ancient times, there were many such places with a fire eruption on Absheron, which prompted many fire worshipers from India and Iran to visit these places. Since then, the three languages of fire with the blue Caspian Sea have become the symbols of Baku.
The mountain still arouses interest among pilgrims and tourists: Buddhists believe in its holiness and come here to meditate. Many people claim that the mountain cures ailments. Near the fire is a mud volcano, the substance of which also has healing properties.
