Thesepir Mosque

7, Mirza Fatali Akhubdov, Baku, Azerbaijan

Description:

The Tezepir Mosque was built in Baku in 1905-1914 on the money of patron Nabat Khanum Ashurbekova and her son. Construction was frozen several times due to the death of the patron and the termination of funding. Earlier on the site of this work of architectural art stood a discreet one-storey mosque. The project of the cult building belongs to Ziverbek Akhmedbekov. It was the Tezepir mosque that raised the bar for the construction of new mosques in Baku.

3 years after its opening, the mosque was closed by the new Soviet state, used as a barn and a cinema, and only in 1943 again became a temple. In addition to the religious building itself, the Administration of Muslims of the Caucasus is located on its territory.

The mosque has two prayer halls - women and men. The men's hall is decorated with 52 chandeliers. The interior of the mosque is painted with patterns of Azerbaijani painters, as well as rare oriental ornaments. The dome and mihrab are made in marble, the height of the dome is one and a half meters. The decoration of the mosque uses natural gold - it covers the tops of minarets, as well as the inscriptions in the temple are made of gold.

From innovations, the mosque made a heated floor and a wardrobe for worshipers.
