Description:

The national flag square in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, is a very young and very important landmark of the city. As the name suggests, the flag of Azerbaijan is on it. The decision to build the square was made in 2007. The site was chosen with the expectation that the flag would be visible from anywhere in the city. It is located in the village of Bailovo in Baku, near the main base of the Navy.

The grand opening of the square took place on September 1, 2010, and it immediately entered the Guinness Book of Records for the world’s tallest flagpole – 162 meters. At the base, its diameter is more than 3 meters, on the top there is a 70-meter flag. The whole giant weighs 220 tons, and when the strong wind flagpole began to sway, residents of the neighboring 9-storey was evacuated.

In 2012, the magnificent Baku Crystal Hall for Eurovision 2012 was built on the square. Another important attraction of the square is the National Flag Museum, which displays the restored flags of various states that existed on the current territory of Azerbaijan.
