Museum of Azerbaijan Literature Nizami
ooh Istigaliyat (Independence), 53, Baku, Azerbaijan
About the company:
The Museum of Azerbaijan Literature named after Nizami Ganjavi was founded in 1939 in honor of the 800th anniversary of the famous Azerbaijani poet, whose name he received. But the opening took place only in 1945, after the victory in the Great Patriotic War. The building of this largest repository of Azerbaijani spiritual culture was built in the 1860s and originally existed as a caravanserai.
Since 1915, the building changed hands, was completed and repeatedly restored. Having briefly stayed at the Metropol Hotel, it became the place of work of the Cabinet of Ministers. And already in 1939, the memorial museum of Nizami Ganjavi was organized in it, which quickly expanded to a museum of literature. Architects Sadyg Dadashev and Mikail Useynov not only overhauled the building, but also added two more floors to it. The facade of the museum acquired sculptures of outstanding poets and writers of the country.
After a new restoration in 2005, the museum was expanded to include 30 main halls and 10 auxiliary halls. Previously, the exhibition included only 1000 exhibits, now the visitor can view at once 25 thousand valuable publications, sculptures and manuscripts.
