Museum of History of Azerbaijan

AZ 1005, G.Z. Tagiyeva St., 4, Baku, Azerbaijan

About the company:

The National Museum of History of Azerbaijan dates back to 1920, when it was called the Museum of History of the Peoples of Azerbaijan. Almost from the moment of its foundation, the museum was located in a spacious mansion of the famous oil producer Haji Zeynalabddin Tagiyev. After the Bolsheviks came to power, the palace ceased to belong to him. The museum was opened to visitors in May 1921.

3 thousand square meters are used directly for museum needs, of which two thirds are occupied by a scientific exposition dedicated to the history of Azerbaijan from ancient to modern times. Today in the museum you can visit 6 thematic and chronological departments: the exposition of antiquity and the Middle Ages, the department of the new period, the exposition of the newest period, the specialized department of numismatics and epigraphy, ethnography, as well as the important department of scientific excursions. Among other things, the museum has a laboratory, where priceless exhibits are carefully restored, as well as an extensive library.

The Museum of History of Azerbaijan has a rich collection of exhibits - more than 300,000 museum treasures, of which only 20,000 can be exhibited at a time, while the rest are waiting for their time in storage.
