Molla Və li Vidadi kucə si, Sheki, Azerbaijan
Description:
One of the most beautiful monuments of Azerbaijan is the Palace of Sheki Khans built in the XVIII century. The two-storey, richly decorated building was conceived as the summer residence of Khan Huseyn Khan Mushtad. The prosperity and power of the Khan symbolized the rich exterior decoration. So, the facade was painted with scenes of war and hunting - that filled the then life of the rulers. These plot drawings are shaded by abstract plant ornaments.
The pearl of the palace is a huge stained glass window made of glass mosaics of different colors. The work is so thin that about 5,000 glasses fit on each square meter of the window. Other windows of the palace of Sheki khans are also made in mosaic technique and are supplemented by an openwork grille made of stone. Separately, it is worth mentioning that the builders did not use absolutely any fastening elements - neither nails nor glue. All elements of the palace are kept with the help of a special solution, the recipe of which has not yet been restored.
The palace consists of only six rooms, but what a room! Each is made in its own unique style and painted with rich patterns - birds of paradise, fabulous animals and luxurious trees, symbolizing the prosperity of the Khan. Guests stayed here. On the second floor, the owner himself lived and hosted guests, his rooms and reception hall were decorated with plot miniatures. The palace is accessible to tourists and is constantly compared to the best preserved palaces in the world.
