Barbar Temple

Road No. 1809, Barbar, Bahrain

Description:

The Temple of Barbara is the common name of three ancient temples in the village of Barbara, which are part of the historical heritage of Dilmun. The oldest of them dates back to 3000 BC, the second of them was mentioned in Mesopotamian cuneiform texts. They were discovered by the archaeological team in 1954, in 2004 excavations resumed.

Temple Barbara is located ten kilometers west of Manama, in the north of the island of Bahrain. Initially, only one building was built in the village, 25 meters long and up to 18 meters wide, around which two more stone majestic temples appeared over time. It is believed that they were built to worship the god Enki, the deity of the oceans, groundwater and wisdom. Many ancient artifacts were found here – dozens of clay cups, copper products, bones of animals that rushed into the sacrifice. Barbara Temple is an amazing place in Bahrain, which is often loved by tourists.
