Cathedral of St. Christopher

Mutanabi Street, Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain

Description:

St. Christopher Cathedral is an Anglican church in the state of Bahrain, part of the diocese of Cyprus and the Persian Gulf countries, built in 1953.

St. Christopher Cathedral is located in the central part of the city of Manama, near Manama Semeteri, in the northeastern part of the state of Bahrain. The first attempts to build a Christian church in Manama were made in the 30s of the twentieth century. However, the construction of the church began only in August 1952, in November of the same year the bishop laid the first stone, and consecrated it on March 13, 1953.

Although it is built in a modern style, the most interesting are the nine handmade Persian windows dating from the XVIII century. The largest of them is placed above the altar and faces east, other windows adorn each wall of the shrine. An integral part of the modern Cathedral of St. Christopher is the school of St. Christopher, founded in 1961 for children of foreigners, and one of the managers of the school is still considered a chaplain.
