Al-Fateh Mosque
Description:
Al-Fateh Mosque, or Cathedral Mosque, is located in the capital of Bahrain – Manama, the only major city of this state. The mosque was built near the royal palace in 1987 and is one of the largest in the world. Its prayer hall simultaneously accommodates about 7000 people. The name of the mosque was given in honor of Ahmad al-Fateh, the first king of Bahrain.
It is worth mentioning that the construction of the building was carried out relatively recently, and this allowed to apply new technologies in the construction. The dome of the building is made of fiberglass and, weighing 60 tons, is the largest dome in the world made of fiberglass. This dome looks especially impressive in the evening when additional lighting is included.
The Al-Fateh Mosque is open to non-Muslims and includes the new National Library, which opened to the public in 2006.
