King Fahd Causeway Bridge

Bayhrane, Middle Island Island

Description:

The King Fahd Causeway Bridge is a long modern bridge between the Kingdom of Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, which consists of several bridges and dams. It was built to improve relations and ties between the two countries in honor of Fahd bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the king of Saudi Arabia, the initiator of this project.

The King Fahd Causeway Bridge connects the west coast of Bahrain, Middle Island and Umm al-Nasan with the city of Al Hubar, a large city in Saudi Arabia. This four-lane road bridge, 25 kilometers long, was opened on November 12, 1986. Its construction required 350 thousand meters of cubic concrete and 47 thousand metric tons of reinforced steel. In 2010, about 19 million passengers passed through the bridge, and 52,000 vehicles pass through it daily. It is on the list of the world’s longest bridges at number 14.
