Sam Lords Castle Mansion
Castle Heights, Harrismith, Barbados
Description:
Sam Lords Castle is the home of Barbados Island buccaneer Sam Lord. This Georgian mansion was built in 1820 and has been renovated many times over the centuries.
Sam Lords Castle is located in the parish of St. Philippe, in southeast Barbados. For some time after the death of Sam Lord, the house belonged to his descendants, but then the building was sold and a hotel was opened here. The mansion has long been used as a luxury hotel in Barbados, but on October 20, 2010 it was badly damaged in a fire and is now closed. Legend has it that Sam Lord got his house, like all wealth, by robbery, he hung lanterns on coconut palms near the reefs, so that captains of ships would mistake them for port lights and destroy their ships on the reefs.
Near Sam Lords Castle you can visit the beautiful beach, which is perfect for picnics and relaxation.
