Day of Belgium
Description:
In 1830, elections to the National Congress were held in November. The result of the Congress was the adoption of the Declaration of Independence of Belgium and the Constitution of the country. February 1831. Belgium was declared a constitutional monarchy with a bicameral parliament.
The question of who will be the king of Belgium has been the subject of extensive international discussion and diplomatic battles (a conference of ambassadors was even convened in London). Then the National Congress elected the son of the French king Louis Philip. Following this decision, the loud protests of the British led to the fact that the king became Leopold I, a relative of the then reigning English Queen Victoria.
In July 1831, Leopold I swore allegiance to the Belgian Parliament.
