The procession of Christ's Holy Blood
Description:
According to legend, Count Thierry D'Alsace, on his return from the crusade, received an award from the bishop of Jerusalem - a crystal capsule with a piece of sheep's wool, which absorbed several drops of Christ's Blood.
To store the relic at the same time was built a building – the chapel of the Holy Blood of Christ. The procession is held every year on June 1 at 15.00. From early morning Bruges is filled with tourists and pilgrims from all over Europe. The procession begins at the town hall square, moves around the historic center of the city and returns back by 18.00. At this moment, the Bishop of Bruges presents a shrine to the crowd and blesses all those gathered.
