Farm Tower
Boerentoren, Antwerpen, Belgium
Description:
The Farm Tower is located on Meir Street, in Anverp, Belgium. This is the first skyscraper of continental Europe, which was built in 1931, its height was 87.5 meters. The name of the building is due to the name of the bank Antwerpse Boerenbank, which was previously located in it. Then the main tenant of the bank became the KVS bank, and nowadays the building is increasingly called the “KVS Tower”.
The supporting structures of the tower are similar to the Chicago skyscrapers, which were first built in New York and Chicago. The facade and interior were partially made in the Art Deco style. In 1970, a large-scale reconstruction of the building began, it became 10 meters higher by 1976. The first version of the tower involved the placement of both office and residential premises in it. After the restoration, the tower became an office building.
