Monument to Anton Van Dyck

Meir Street, Antwerp, Belgium

Description:

A white marble monument to the great Flemish painter of the 17th century Antonis Van Dyck is installed in the city of Antwerp.

This city is the birthplace of the artist. The monument was created in 1856.

The authorship belongs to the sculptor Leonard Kuiper. Initially, the monument was in front of the Academy of Fine Arts, but later it was moved several times, and so often that the citizens, jokingly, offered to attach wheels to it.

The opening of the monument on the wide pedestrian street Meir took place in 1992.
