Antwerp

Antwerp Central Station

Description:

Antwerp’s main railway station is undoubtedly a landmark of the city. For the station, it is simply defiantly beautiful. So much so that it was even recognized as the fourth in the ranking of the most beautiful stations in the world according to American journalists in 2009.

A luxurious building a bit like the cathedral of the station was built on the site of the East station. The original design of the station, proposed by the architect E. Diltienson, was rejected. The project of Louis Delasenseri was taken into consideration. It was incarnated by the end of the summer of 1905. It was at this time that Antwerp had a new city station.

It looks majestic, but at the same time light. The interiors are decorated with more than 20 types of marble, the main hall and the cafe room with their interiors can argue with the royal chambers.

The situation in Antwerp by the middle of the last century almost led to the demolition of this magnificent building. Fortunately, in 1975 it was recognized as an architectural monument. By 2009, a large-scale reconstruction of the building was completed.
