St. Walburgy Church
Boomgaardstraat 5, 8000 Brugge, Belgium
Description:
The Church of St. Valburgi, located near the central square of the city of Bruges, was built by the Jesuits in the Baroque style in the first half of the XVII century. Characterized by the facade of the temple of natural stone with a raised middle and two low sides, which resembles the Church of Jesu in Rome. It perfectly reveals the three-nave structure of the church, and originates in ancient times, from the first Roman basilicas. The temple does not have a high bell tower.
The interior of the church is completely white, which gives a feeling of exceptional lightness and perfect cleanliness. In the left and right aisles, visitors can see a beautiful collection of paintings by Flemish artists of the XVII - XVIII centuries. In the central nave there is a chair of the XVII century with surprisingly fine wood carvings. The altar and several statues around it were carved out of wood in 1643.
