Rock Bayard
Description:
Bayard Rock, located on the exit from Dinan, is one of the main attractions of the city. A separate part of the mountain range reaches a height of 33 meters, so it is extremely difficult not to notice it from the banks of the Meuse River.
There are several legends about how Bayard came to be. According to one version, a giant horse Bayard, jumping over a raging river, hit the rock with a hoof, separating it from the main mountain. It is worth noting that this legend is the most popular, although there is more reliable. In the time of Louis XIV, the French troops, in order to conquer Dinan, with the help of an explosion formed a passageway into the city. As a result, indeed, now operates, although narrow, but still the road, both for a small vehicle and for pedestrians.
The top of the rock is decorated with a small spire, although, many people claim that there is also a footprint from the hooves of a fairy-tale horse.
