Dinant Castle
Place Reine Astrid 3, 5500 Dinant
Description:
Dinan Citadel is located in the city of the same name in the Belgian region of Wallonia and is one of the main city attractions. It is located on the high bank of the Meuse River and is a classical military fortress of the XIX century in wedge shape.
Towering 100 meters above the city, the Dina Citadel was built in 1820. Early fortifications on the site date back to 1051, but they were destroyed by the French in 1703. The citadel played an important role in the battle against invading German troops in 1914.
To get to the castle, you need to overcome 420 steps on the stairs carved into the rock or climb the funicular. At the foot of the rock stands the church of St. Mary, whose tower has long been a symbol of Dinant.
