St. Walburg Church
Markt 39-41, Oudenaarde, Belgium
Description:
St. Valburgi Church is the main church of Audenarde, located next to the Market Square. Built in the tenth century, the church suffered from a fire and was rebuilt in 1126. However, construction was not completed, by 1534 only the tower and part of the choir were built.
As the church was destroyed and rebuilt, today in its architecture there is a mixture of Baroque and Gothic styles. During the War it was also destroyed, after which it was restored in 1949. In 1967, new bells weighing 15 kilograms were installed.
The unfinished temple, 88 meters high, has inside the altar of the XII century, paintings, statues and tapestries. Some of the old blue stones that were used for decoration were also preserved.
