St Bartholomew's Church
Place Saint Barth l my 2-4, 4000 Liege, Belgium
Description:
On rue Saint-Barth lemy is a church of the same name. It began to be built in the XI century, but only in the XII century opened its doors to parishioners.
St. John's. Bartholomew was rebuilt more than once, but she managed to retain the style of German-Romanesque architecture. In the XVIII century, a neoclassical portal appeared near the western facade, and two naves were added. Thus, the church began to absorb elements of baroque.
Inside the building is stored one of the 7 wonders of Belgium - brass font, made by Rainier in the XII century. Then the font was proudly supported by 12 bulls, and now only 10 remain. But still they remain symbols of the 12 apostles who preach the teachings of Jesus Christ.
The paintings of Belgian artists kept in the temple, however, like everything in this church, surprise with their realism.
