Palace of Prince Bishops

Place Saint Lambert 90, 4000 Liege, Belgium

Description:

The Palace of the Prince-Bishops is located in the center of Liege on St. Lambert Square, where the cathedral of the same name used to exist. Victor Hugo admitted that he had never seen a building more majestic, strict and grandiose. Such an original is the mixture of styles in which this construction is made.

Several buildings were previously built on the site of the current palace. In 1000, the Prince-Bishop of Liege, Notger, built a palace surrounded by deep moats and impregnable walls. It was destroyed in 1185 by fire.

Today's building was built in the XVI century. The facade of the palace is made in Gothic style. The large courtyard is surrounded by galleries with high vaults, which consist of 60 unusual columns with carved capitals.

The palace now houses the Liege justice headquarters.
