St. Peter's Cathedral of Liège

Place de la Cath drale 1, 4000 Liege, Belgium

Description:

In the colorful city of Liege there is a beautiful architectural monument - Liege Cathedral of St. Paul. All elements of the Cathedral of Liège are made in a unique style of “flammable Gothic”. After the last reconstructions, the cathedral absorbed the features of classicism and baroque.

It took centuries to build this building. The beginning of construction was laid in the X century, but it continued in the XIII - XV centuries, and in the XIX began its reconstruction. The main nave, transept and choirs in the cathedral appeared in the XIII century, and aspids - in the XIV.

The cathedral is located in the residence of the Bishop of Liège and is considered a cathedral, although until 1795 this status belonged to the Cathedral of Lambert of Maastricht, which was destroyed by the French Revolution. With the arrival of Napoleon, all the inhabitants of Liège voted for the Church of St. Peter to become a cathedral, and their wish was fulfilled.
