Jehe Castle
Description:
The original ancient castle in the province of Liege. Its walls are lined with two types of stones: white and light gray. This makes the structure look like a chessboard.
The possessions of Jeche are first mentioned in written sources in 1130. They changed owners more than once and eventually found themselves at the disposal of the Guy van den Steen family. They still own the castle.
During World War II, the castle served as a shelter for the children of Belgian railway workers and remained in a deplorable state. In peacetime, the owners of the castle completely restored the interior of the castle, using furniture from the same time as the one that stood there before. Therefore, tourists visiting the castle today can feel themselves in the atmosphere of the present Middle Ages.
Of particular interest are a large dining room in the style of Gothic and Renaissance, a small dining room of the XVIII century, a rich library of the XVII-XIX centuries, a Kurzal of the XVII-XVIII centuries, a well-lit hall, living rooms of the XVII and XVIII centuries, as well as a small hall.
